cat not feeling well

No pet owner likes hearing the hacking sound their cats make telling the owner there is something that needs cleaning up. When your cat begins to gag, the first thought that must go through your mind is “Please no, don’t tell me she threw up again”. There are a lot of reasons why your cat throws up, with some of them being more serious than others. If you are a new cat owner, there are some things that you must keep in mind when it comes to cat and their vomiting issues.

Why do cats vomit?

A lot of owners believe that hairballs are the reason for their cat’s vomiting. However, hairballs aren’t the only culprit. It would be careless to just assume that every time your cat is vomiting is because of hairballs. There are two other reasons for an upset stomach:

Curiosity

Carpet, grass, and toilet paper are some of the things that your cat can digest and vomit later on. Vomiting is actually a protective mechanism or nature’s way of cleaning the cat’s system from the inside. Sometimes curiosity can lead to serious problems. In case your cat ingests feathers, toy parts, or strings, they can lodge in the intestine or stomach, causing repetitive vomiting and distress.

Eating way too fast

Cats often eat too much, too fast. If the stomach wall expands rapidly, a signal is sent across to the brain to cause regurgitation. In such cases, the throwing up is caused by regurgitation and not the actual vomiting. Cats eat at a fast pace when they are gluttonous or stressed out by food bowl competition. Don’t always assume that regurgitation will always be caused by eating too fast. It can even be a result of esophageal problems, dehydration, or obstruction of the digestive tract.

Are there any ways to prevent cat vomiting?

Wouldn’t you all love to know the secrets that will lower or even eliminate the risk of cat vomiting? Do you want to train your cat not to vomit on your carpet or the bed?

Unfortunately, there isn’t a magic trick. But there are some things that you can try to ease your cat’s discomforts.
The easiest way to decrease the cases of vomiting would be to stop them from hacking up hairballs. By brushing the cat regularly, feeding her food with balanced nutrition, and keeping her active, you will be able to reduce the ingestion of hairballs.
When you talk about regurgitating, be sure that you always feed your cat around the same time every day. Give her an adequate amount of food as recommended by your vet and always provide clean, fresh water at all times. The cat that is experiencing frequent upset stomach cases will be at risk of dehydration. Most of the cats get the majority of their water intake from food and throwing up results in loss of water. Be sure to give your cat access to fresh water at all times and encourage her to drink it as much as possible. These simple actions will go a long way in making sure your cat doesn’t eat too quickly. If your cat still eats quickly, you should try using a puzzle feeder or food in the form of large, crunchy pieces as it will slow them down.
